Season's spookiest greetings to you all! This All Hallows’ Eve, I hope you are creeping it real (I'm so sorry, I had to). This post functions as a celebration of Halloween, a recap of the month, and a look to the future, so read on if you dare!
Original Horror Stories for Halloween
If you're looking for something spooky to read, why not take a gander at one of the short stories I've got lying around here? These are just a few you could choose from:
Halloween Recommendations
In case you missed it, I posted some movies you might want to check out:
And I also compiled a list of horror-friendly tabletop roleplaying games:
But I'd like to add some literary recommendations as well! Some favorites include:
Ghost Story by Peter Straub
The Shining by Stephen King
Dracula by Bram Stoker
The Masque of Red Death and The Telltale Heart by Edgar Alan Poe
The Temple and The Call of Cthulhu by H.P. Lovecraft
Thor by Wayne Smith
Craven Manor and The Black Winter Series by Darcy Coates
Something Wicked This Way Comes by Ray Bradbury
And there are so many more I could list! Horror novels are truly something special, and I look forward to still being here next year to give another round of recommendations.
Updates to the Substack
Let me be real with you, folks: this has been an insane month. A move, a hurricane, work, church, family life, and a beautiful new goddaughter have all vied for my time and attention, so it is little wonder that I did not write nearly as much as I would have liked.
But tomorrow begins a new month, and it happens to be the two-year anniversary of my start on The Herald of Som, my epic-fantasy novel/series.
And so, I will be posting chapters here to my Substack, and thus will I dispense with my title of “Aspiring Author, Professional Nerd.” From now on, you are reading:
This new publication name is not a delusion of grandeur, but instead still an aspiration.
It is both my self-motivation and my promise to my readers that I will continue to write, continue to build out the fantastic and the thrilling, continue to strive for something worthy of the descriptor “legendary.”
And so, the first chapter of The Herald of Som will drop tomorrow, November 1st!
I hope you give it a chance and that it intrigues you enough to stick around. I’ve got big plans for Legendarium, and you don't want to miss it!
Blessings,
S.M. Osborne
