We are three weeks into this Substack publication, and things keep getting better and better!
… is how I wish I felt. Don’t get me wrong, I’m loving this platform, and I love that I’m getting to write consistently in a way that is visible and feels real.
But at the end of the day, any form of social media can get reduced to a numbers game, and it’s already easy to be insecure about writing in and of itself without worrying over whether anybody is actually reading it.
However, I have also been immensely encouraged by the other writers on Substack that the journey is a long and arduous one, and I cannot expect to build my Rome in a day. In fact, I don’t even need to worry about a Rome; I’m just trying to build a little home of my own.
So here we are for another round up of weekly wins!
Herald of Som Progress:
+ 4,305 words (total: 74,756 words)
Holy cow, folks, I’ve finally finished the segment I’ve been stuck on for months and have moved on to the second to last section of the book. For those with burning curiosity, the segments are currently named:
The Final Battle
Awakening
Whispers on the Wind
Familiar Faces
Pacts Undone
Unfinished Business
I’m reaching the end of the first chapter of the Pacts Undone segment, which is the twenty-fifth chapter of the overall book. It’s really cool seeing how each character operates and reacts to the events of the book, and I’m oddly excited about getting to come back through to edit everything once the first draft is done. Here’s hoping it’s soon!
Meal of the Week:
Stovetop Golden Curry
This is my go-to recipe. Easy, relatively quick, and absolutely delicious.
Being that it’s a stew-like recipe, you can throw in pretty much whatever you want, but my usual ingredients are:
Golden Curry mix (Hot)
Polska sausage
Broccoli
Baby Dutch yellow potatoes (or whatever yellow/golden potato available)
Sliced onion
Minced garlic
Soy sauce
Just follow the instructions on the side of the Golden Curry box, make a batch of white rice or rice noodles to serve over, et voila! You’ve got a delicious dish to eat while playing JRPGs.
Speaking of which…
Fabula Ultima TTJRPG
Let’s tabletalk about it!
This win-of-the-week technically happened last week, but who’s counting?
I am a huge TTRPG nerd… in theory. Problem is, I get burnout real bad if I try to participate in a weekly game, but finding people to do just semi-regular sessions while adulting is still the biggest gaming boss known to nerd kind.
So what do I do instead of play tabletop games? I read about them and fantasize about playing them.
Enter Fabula Ultima!
Combining my loves for Final Fantasy and D&D, this game purports to be styled directly after the Japanese roleplaying game genre. I managed to convince two of my dearest friends to humor me with playing some of the introductory scenario, and even though it was a bit of a slog trying to learn the mechanics and play at the same time, I see so much potential in it.
Now to just find the time to work, write, and play games without sacrificing health and socializing… should be easy, right?
Final Win of the Week… is YOU!
Seriously, you’re awesome.
Regardless of my fickle feelings, the last three weeks have been unequivocally the best three weeks of writing I’ve had since I started taking writing seriously two years ago.
You fine folks reading this have decided to join me for the journey, and I couldn’t be more grateful.
This is where we’re at. I have 17 of you with me right now, and 4 of you have been so gracious as to bless me financially in this endeavor. I can’t begin to express what that means to me, but I hope that by continuing to write and strive toward authorship, I can do your support justice.
Many Thanks,
S.M. Osborne
